PROJECT SUMMARY

The upgrade of facilities at Danescroft Equestrian Center to offer users an enhanced service.

BACKGROUND

The promoter George Stewart is the owner of Danescroft Equestrian Centre offering a range of services to the equine sector inc a sand-based competition arena, sand gallop, livery and training facilities. The promoter has extensive experience of the equine industry. In terms of current service provision Danescroft Equestrian generates £67k of annual income. Danescroft has already applied successfully for RDP grant assistance and a further opportunity now exists to develop an all weather gallop and the promoter has provided evidence of demand for the project.

ACTIVITIES

The promoter identified a high level of demand for a gallop featuring the same all weather fibre surface as recently completed for the outdoor sand arena. There is demand among equine circles for a facility for developing “endurance riding”. This involves horses riding long distances to improve the athletic potential.  In terms of physical needs, the promoter will upgrade the existing gallop facility to feature a new sand fibre surface. A projected capital cost of £60k is based on a quotation received and includes removal of existing surface, drainage repair works and supply and install of new synthetic sand mixture. It is anticipated works will complete by no later than 31 October 2012.

BENEFITS

Capital cost £60k Project to commence 1 July 2012 and complete 31 October 2012 Project to generate £7500 Income stream in Year 1 increasing to £15750 in Year 2 Creation of 1 FTE post Match funding resourced from private funds

LESSONS

The promoter believes his business will continue to benefit from a highly efficient grapevine within the equestrian community therefore minimal investment in marketing will be needed for the project to become an instant success, attracting more horse professionals to utilise the upgraded facilities. The promoter has conducted market research in support of his project to upgrade the sand arena.
