Purchase of equipment to enable an engineering works carry out essential work in-house as opposed to outsourcing.
The applicant, John Patton, established his business 2 years ago and purchased the necessary equipment required to set up the business. However, due to business set up costs, this equipment was limited to basic engineering equipment: 1 welder, band saw, magnetic drill and power hand tools. As the business became more well established, the continuing and increasing need for outsourcing works concerning with the preparation of his raw materials were creating inefficiencies in terms of time, cost, quality control, and limitation to the manufacture of bespoke products, (which was reliant on the skill level of other firms). The applicant proposed to bring in-house certain engineering works as it was no longer efficient to outsource.
