The conversion of a 150 year old stone barn into a self catering unit.
Anne Johnston ran the family farm, about 8 miles from the main county town of Omagh, for over 15 years. The beautiful setting of the extensive grounds, traditional barns and coach house had huge tourism potential. Anne realised that there was a niche in the market for self catering facilities in the area and knew that if developed, the outbuildings could be rented to meet that demand and create an additional income to the farm.
Funded under Axis 3, through ARC North West, the project involved building works including electrical installation and marketing costs to promote the property. The barn has been converted into a stunning and spacious Kilcootry Barn which now boasts a host of original features including vaulted ceilings, exposed beams. It has two double bedrooms, open plan Living / Dining / Kitchen, bathroom with separate shower, a hand crafted kitchen with granite worktops and equipped with all modern appliances. In addition the front door opens out to a large landscaped garden with patio area and barbecue facilities. The property has also been awarded a five star rating from the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB).
