Purchase of equipment to improve efficiency of production line of engineering business
Eugene Dixon and his father own a farm in Dunloy where Eugene has developed a large engineering business which now employs fourteen people. The business undertakes powder coating of metal products for companies such as Wrightbus, FG Wilson, Hutchinson Engineering, NK Fencing and smaller engineering firms. The applicant has previously been awarded £60,000 from NAL+ for the development of his production line and installation of a new powder coating spray booth.
Funded under Axis 3, through North East Region, Eugene received grant assistance for the installation of a new automatic shot blasting facility, which enables him to improve the efficiency and speed of the production line. The shot blasting facility has a 2.6m x 1.6m opening which enables much larger dimensions of products to be put through and blasted in a much quicker timescale - the previous manual blasting machine could take up to 40 minutes for a single piece to be shot blasted whereas the new facility shall enable this to be completed in 8 minutes. The uniform blasting shall also remove all operator error and leave each piece fully blasted and bare, whereas previously some of the pieces blasted may still have residue and paint attached.
