PROJECT SUMMARY

The Morley Bridge is located on the western fringe of Doagh. It is a 3 span masonry arch bridge constructed during the early 1700s. The bridge is currently in a very poor and dangerous condition and currently not used by vehicular traffic. The project was identified as part of the village planning process for Doagh and raised as a key area of concern by the village dwellers.

BACKGROUND

Newtownabbey Borough Council received funding towards technical assistance to employ a consultant to undertake a detailed condition report on the Morley bridge, and identify options and costs for its restoration or replacement.

ACTIVITIES

As a result of the concerns, an initial report was prepared for the Bridge which suggested the need for a detailed feasibility study and economic assessment to be undertaken in conjunction with a structural assessment to assess the viability and acceptability of restoring or replacing the bridge. Items funded:

  • Survey and report on Morley Bridge
