The purchase of a range of equipment to improve efficiencies and production in a handmade timber products manufacturing business.
The business Willowtree Cottage Timber Products is a partnership and is ran by a husband and wife team; Derek and Ciara Tiernan located in Annalong, County Down. The couple are parents of a young family and the business is based on the family farm adjacent to their home. The family farm is a small cattle/sheep farm andthis 2nd generation has diversified into a new business venture.
The business started in April 2009 and involves the manufacturing of a hand-built range of timber products for animal housing, garden products and bespoke timber products. The main products manufactured are a range of hen houses, however the business has a wide range of products on offer such as poultry houses, bee hives, bird aviaries, owl boxes, childrens timber castles, potting sheds.
Funded under Axis 3, through SOAR, the business was at a point that investments had to be made into commercial scale tools and infrastructure to:
1. Improve efficiency of production methods and production time
2. Increase the lifespan of tools
3. Ensure consistent product quality and standards
4. Maintain the high quality products that the brand has been built on.
The applicant was funded to purchase the following equipment to expand the production capacity and efficiency of production methods:
• Band saw, Chop saw and Table saw
• Strapping Kit
• Mortas Machine
• Nail guns x 2
• Cantilever Shelving
