Project Summary
Toome House was built in 2000 and based in Toombridge, Co Antrim. It is managed by TIDAL an established Social Enterprise and provides much needed services to the local community through room provision; facilitation of courses and renting of 6 units to businesses and health care providers including a dental practice, doctors surgery, complimentary therapist, Naiscoil Nursery and pharmacy.
Project Information
Funding was awarded to make changes to the existing community rooms including opening up two rooms into one and installing a sliding partitioned wall to provide greater flexibility for use of the space; extending the kitchen facilities to enable greater numbers to be accommodated at both the luncheon club and the cookery classes, provide a new storage space above the kitchen and build an extension to the existing dental surgery premises, to allow them to open a third surgery to accommodate patients numbers/ staffing.
Activities
Toome House is a vital hub within the community in Toomebridge and the surrounding areas. It is widely used by a variety of local groups for example, the local mums and tot’s group; Women’s group; elderly luncheon club; craft group. In addition TIDAL organise and deliver a number of important classes, courses and workshops for the local community including topics such as – mental health awareness; drug and alcohol awareness; cookery classes to name but a few. The venue is also regularly hired for gymnastics, yoga, pilates, and members of the public use the venue for a variety of events including birthday parties.
Benefits
With the premises operating at full capacity and a need for the dentist to expand and employ a 3rd dentist within the practice, the group applied for changes to be made internally to Toome House which would enable greater flexibility for community events, courses and group meetings, and for an extension to create additional space for the planned expansion of the dental practice.
