The creation of approximately 20 kitchen garden allotments within a four acre plot of land.
The applicant is an arable farmer, situated just off the Newry to Armagh road. The applicant has been farming crops for 16 years, growing cereals and vegetables for both the retail and wholesale market. The applicant has a keen interest in land, particularly in horticulture and edible crop production. This applicant has established a successful business in arable farming, one of the few such businesses in the locality.
Funded under Axis 3, through SOAR, the following items were funded:
Plots are individually fenced with a provision for a garden shed if required. Water is available at each plot along with a composting facility. Ample car parking and toilet/hand washing facilities are provided. A ‘model plot’ is also available to demonstrate best practice to clients and from which other customers can base the design of their allotment on.
The allotments are primarily marketed at the Newry/Mourne District Council area population and offers individual plots of land in which users can cultivate their own fresh and seasonal vegetables, herbs and soft fruits.
