Restoration of Lissan House, a 17th century listed building and demesne located just outside Cookstown.
The Friends of Lissan Trust developed an action plan consisting of 10 projects or actions to result in the 267 acre estate being developed over a 5 to 7 year period at a cost of approximately £5 million.
Funded under Axis 3, through SWARD, the first project within the action plan was to carry out repairs to Lissan House, grounds, and access road and to install interpretative panels, making Lissan House a safe and interesting visitor attraction. Other projects will progress as and when funding becomes available to repair and develop other buildings within the estate.
This first phase of the overall development plan will enable tours of Lissan House to take place, by visitors, tourists and school parties as well as being used for a range of social functions such as cultural evenings. In addition, the extensive grounds can be explored and enjoyed by visitors.
