PROJECT SUMMARY

Purchase of specific modernising concrete equipment to increase the service offered by a local construction firm.

BACKGROUND

The applicant has 20 years experience in the construction industry. He has worked with his father who is a part-time farmer/builder for several years, however has now been self employed for 8 years. He has offered paving, stone driveways, concreting and general groundwork for commercial, residential, private sector and public sector.  The applicant has carried out some exposed aggregate jobs before, using a traditional cement mixer and a wooden (2x4) ‘make-shift’ screed roller however it has limitations regarding quantity, quality, consistency and product range that can be produced.

ACTIVITIES

Funded under Axis 3, through SOAR, the applicant was funded equipment to carry out these new services: 

• Exposed aggregate – is a versatile decorative finish for concrete flatwork, suitable for patios, driveways, footpaths, and decorative borders.Surfaces can be non-skid and resistant to wear and weathering.  
• Pervious concrete (water permeable) - is a special type of concrete with a high porosity used for concrete flatwork applications that allows water from precipitation and other sources to pass directly through.  The applicant is not aware of anyone offering this product at the moment in NI.

Specific items funded: 

• Roller screed tube driven by a hydraulic power pack (includes 2 metal handles and ‘shoe’) with an adjustable kerb runner 
• 802 ss Pan mixer – with Hydraulic Drive kit (heavy duty swinging chute and fork securing device)
