The development of a specialist tourism-focused trading division to an existing business to offer a Barbeque Cooking School.



Established in 1940, the project promoter is Hillmount Nursery Centre.  It  is one of the leading garden centres in Northern Ireland enjoying panoramic views of Belfast and its surrounding area.  The concept of a BBQ school had been developed by Hillmount’s management team and follows extensive research by the promoter into the development of barbequing as a highly popular niche activity in the UK and Europe.



Funded under Axis 3, through Lagan Rural Partnership, the BBQ school will provide leisure classes which can be packaged for visitors as part of overnight and weekend breaks to the area as well as corporate teambuilding activities. Classes will also be available as a leisure activity to be delivered via day & evening classes. Items funded were:

  • Excavation, Groundwork
  • Steelwork, Superstructure and Fit
  • Services including plumbing and wiring
  • Project Launch & Marketing Costs


Three new jobs were created.
