Purchase and installation of a weighbridge to improve efficiencies within a waste paper recycling business.
Brendan Bailey operates a waste paper recycling business, called Bailey Waste, from a rented farm premises outside Ballycastle. The company, which has been operational for six years and has built up a large customer base covering all of counties Antrim, Derry and into parts of County Down. The company purchases waste paper, cardboard and plastic and bales it on site into half tonnes for shipping to recycling plants in England.
In order to improve efficiencies within the business, Brendan applied to Axis 3 through North East Region for grant assistance with the purchase and installation of a weighbridge to enable him to load 47 bales into a lorry container and then have this dispatched to the port of Larne for transportation to England.
1 part time job created.
Prior to this project, when Brendan used a haulage company for transportation they would have to fill the lorry and go to a weighbridge, weigh the load there and photograph it prior to sealing and dispatch to meet export regulations. Often it was overloaded meaning the lorry would be refused entry to board the ship and must return to base where some of the load was taken off.
