Development of a new interactive tour guide service for visitors to Cookstown District Council area allowing them to download site specific information onto mobile devices when visiting locations of interest.

Research has shown that visitor experiences are greatly enhanced when a tour guide is available to explain the significance of various aspects of any tour.  However, the availability of tour guides is not always practical and achievable in all circumstances especially at isolated rural sites.  This is the issue that Cookstown District Council Tourist Information Centre wanted to solve for visitors to key sites in their District.

Funded under Axis 3 through SWARD, the interactive tour guide applications software is available at the following key visitor sites;

  • Moneymore Heritage Trail
  • Ardboe Cross
  • Tullaghoge Fort
  • Beaghmore Stone Circles and a number of other key archaeological sites in the Cookstown District.

Audio/visual tours are accessible via web, mobile and ipod technologies.  The new service is promoted to visitors to Cookstown through the Councils annual Tourism Programme.  It is also promoted to educational facilities in the Cookstown District and the wider region.
