Fourds Blinds

Name: Fourds Blinds
Location: Draperstown
County: Londonderry
Total Cost: £ 42,400.00
Axis: AXIS 3 : SWARD

The purchase of equipment to expand facilities at a blinds supply business and offer a wider service to customers.

The applicant began to examine the Roof Light Window Blind marketplace for potential opportunities in 2007 as this was his background having worked in Key Lite (one of the main roof light window manufactures), who source all their blinds from third party contractors.  The applicant established Fourds Blinds and secured a contract with Key Lite to become one of their primary blind suppliers.  Prior to the funded project, he bought in the blind components from China and material from Ballymena, but had plans in place to manufacture and build the blinds themselves and process their own material so that they could accommodate all orders, ie shape, size, colour of fabric rather than depend on stock from China.

Funded under Axis 3, through SWARD.  Growth in sales and the need to meet the future demands of the business, meant that a number of pieces of equipment were essential to the enhancement of the production/assembly process to improve the efficiency of this process ensuring the company could meet market demand and manufacture in-house rather than having to import from China.  Items funded:

  • Sewing Machine
  • Fabric Cutter
  • Conveyor
  • Bespoke test-bay
  • Workstations x 8
  • Aluminium tools
  • Aluminium upstroke saw and specialised tooling
  • Aluminium notching tool and pneumatic actuator

The new equipment allows the applicant some free time to research new developments for the business and enhance sustainability.  This company is a key exporter and local job creator.  This funded project created 8 full time jobs.
