Marketing activities to increase awareness and benefits of Moira Friendship Group.
Moira Friendship Group (MFG) was formed in September 2002, to address social exclusion among older people and provide a platform to promote friendship and well being for older people living in the Moira area. The Group was established by the Community, for the Community and is managed by a voluntary committee elected yearly. MFG operates from St. John’s Parish Centre, Moira and has undertaken a wide range of activities since its inception. While the Group has been in operation for 8 years it has experienced barriers in making its activities and range of programmes widely known to the rural community. This is partly due to financial constraints as the Group are a registered charity.
From an internal survey undertaken by MFG, it emerged that the majority of members became aware of the organisation and its services through word of mouth with existing members recommending the group to others. The promoter identified a deficiency in the promotion and advertising of their services and sought support from the RDP to develop and undertake a robust marketing strategy in which to increase membership numbers and enable established and new activities to reach a wider audience, benefiting greater numbers of people and helping to eradicate social exclusion experienced by the over 50s in the greater rural area.
