Grant funding has been used to develop the school house, bring it back into use, primarily as a community space not just for Lylo’s parishioners, but for use by the whole community in the local rural area.
St John’s Church, Lylo is located at Bluestone Road, Craigavon, in the Parish of Moyraverty. The current church building has been in existence since 1869, and in 1893 St John’s Church School was built, and then extended in 1927. The chapel and school are joined together, which unique in Ireland, as by law under the National Schools Act of Parliament (1830’s) churches and associated neighbouring schools were to be entirely separate. It is the only remaining school attached to a church in existence in Northern Ireland.
