Purchase of equipment to increase capacity and profitability of fledging light engineering business – Sullivan’s Engineering to supplement farm income.
William Sullivan (the applicant) is a director of Merlin Transport (NI) Ltd, and also a qualified engineer with a farming background. The applicant wished to diversify into light engineering on a larger scale in order to supplement current farm income, sustain 1 full time employee on the farm and create part time employment for 1 engineer (design and development of new products). Sullivan’s Engineering is a division of Merlin Transport (NI), which has been trading for nine years in the farming sector and currently provides enough work for 1 part time employee (member of the family). Alone this income is not sufficient or sustainable to keep the family member on the farm.
Funded under Axis 3, through SOAR the applicant purchased a wide range of equipment to branch out into refurbishing and manufacturing small agricultural machines and offering an on/off site shot blast cleaning and on/off site spray painting service of farm equipment.

1 part time engineering post has been created
