Enhancement of facilities at The Orchard Stables to increase capacity and potential usage.
The Orchard Stables is a small livery yard owned and managed by Gillian Patterson. Gillian is 25 years of age and a member of a farming family. The business is situated on the family farm outside Ballynahinch and has been recently established. Ten acres of the farmland is in use by the business for the purposes of hacking and daily turning out of horses.
Since April 2011, Orchard stables have been filled to capacity and there has been no opportunity to bring in additional income or grow the business. The current sand arena is too small to share and can only be used by one rider at a time. Another deficiency is that it can only hold a maximum of two jumps which means customers must take their horses elsewhere to practice show-jumping and eventing
In order to implement the proposed project the promoter will require a new sand arena measuring 60’ x 30’, ground and drainage work to allow this site to be prepared, the purchase of Clopf to mix with sand to provide optimal surface material for the arena, a mechanical horse walker with a concrete base and the purchase of a set of BSJA standard show-jumps.
Create 0.75 FTE posts ie staffing for events based on 7 stewards attending with various roles including parking attendant, stable attendant, tack inspector, commentator, two stewards for main arena and one for sand school. Project to generate annual sales income of £34824 in Yr 1 increasing to £81840 in Yr 5.
