The establishment of an aluminium recycling plant - the first of its kind in Northern Ireland.
Aidan McClements obtained approval from the planning service to establish a small scale recycling plant at his yard, to melt down aluminium wire into ingots for resale back to aluminium producers.
Funded under Axis 3, through the North East Region LAG, the project enabled the purchase of a Furnace, Baler, Generator, Hydraulic Scissors and Skips.
There are no recycling plants in NI to deal with aluminium – currently it must all be shipped to England for processing - so the applicant intends to be the first to start by melting them down. The plant will be able to recycle all types of aluminium from cans to heavy products and offer a supply of aluminium, which is currently experiencing high demand.
